Am I offended by younger Entrepreneurs?
As a veteran business owner, the most difficult thing for me is to be truly happy for a younger person who has surpassed me in financial success. Yes, the correct thing is to congratulate the younger person on his/her success, but I don’t feel it in my heart, and this is false.
Especially if this younger person does not work as hard as I do, and by hard work, I don’t mean just hours, but commitment and sacrifice. What I mean is physical or stressful hard work, like construction. A construction worker works physically harder than a lawyer but is paid far less.
Please hear me out, I do not have an issue with the younger person. I do not wish him or her anything bad, in actual fact it has nothing to do with the younger successful business person it has to do with me with my heart with me feeling it is or the world is treating me unfairly. If I am any way angry or offended it is towards the world or the cosmos not at all towards the younger business person. Rather I would even help and give all my wisdom to such a person to be successful I am merely mentioning the fact of a flaw in my own heart.
As a Christian, this reveals a great issue. At best, it’s jealousy, but worse, it shows a heart desiring the world… a false God. I desire to be free from it and be content with what I have, but yet I am too afraid to ask God to free me from it, as for what price I might pay—a price of suffering?
The world is not fair; you are not paid according to how hard you work or how stressful your work is. You are not paid according to your skill level or experience. In the same field, yes, you are paid more than the other person with less experience, but not in business.
In business, what niche makes all the difference. So choose wisely! Business is business.
If you are starting out or want to start a business, think carefully about the niche of your business that you want to pursue or start. Income is not only determined by talent or passion. Yes, it is easier for you and will bring you joy if your business is within your talent and passion, but if financial freedom is your goal, if business is your talent and passion, then the niche does not matter. My advice is to choose a niche that pays well in your area or where you want to live. Also, consider the scalability of your niche and never forget the effort factor.
What is the effort factor? Well, that is something we do not seem to put a price on when we calculate the profit margin of a product. The effort factor is how much effort it takes from you to produce, market, and sell your product. As a business owner, the most valuable commodity you have is time. Use it wisely.
May God free me from this worldly sin. May I congratulate the Joneses with true happiness, even if they are younger, and may God forgive me, and may I be content with what He has blessed me with.
